Buttonwood Park Zoo

After partnering with TFG on the marketing side of things, the Buttonwood Park Zoo approached TFG in hopes of creating a new website that better represented their brand, mission, and the one-of-a-kind experience they provide to the community. Buttonwood’s vision for this project was a youthful, on-brand website that showcased featured animals, important events, and key information while still keeping the website easy to maintain and user-friendly.

1.0 The Challenge

The Buttonwood Park Zoo (BPZoo) is a prominent organization in our community and one of the finest small zoos in the United States. However, their previous website wasn’t adequate to represent their purpose and all that they offer.

They needed to redesign their website to create a better user experience that would appeal to a larger audience and urge viewers to consume more content. TFG’s biggest challenge was designing and editing content for over 130 pages on the new website. The BPZoo has a long history, numerous attractions & animals, and resource pages for donations, job postings, and contact information, and this all needed to be presented to a user in a clear, user-friendly web interface.

3.0 How We Did It

With so much to offer, the BPZoo wanted to be able to present themselves in a way that was appealing, user-friendly, and visually interesting so we set out to create a site architecture and design that encouraged users to stay on the site and seek information about what the zoo offered beyond just finding out their visiting hours, but could also be easily maintained by a smaller, in-house team as their hours, programming, and offerings change with the seasons.

Colorful visuals were used to capture and convey the feeling one experiences when visiting the BPZoo, with key messaging broadcast front and center to keep visitors engaged and updated. Different site flows were created based on their audience’s top interests, needs, and general behaviors in order to help them find information quickly while ensuring that the user experience was positive and easy to navigate.

The result was an award-winning site that has received three outstanding awards from CSS Design for UI design, UX design, and Innovation. TFG also won a W3 gold award for general non-profit websites and a silver award for best visual appeal and website features. Check out our feature on The Best Zoo Website Designs with Design Rush.
